Tag. I'm It.

I have been tagged by my friend, Amin, to answer all the questions in life that need to be answered. Life, the universe and everything can be answered in one single number. I’ll let you guess if you are a fan of The Hitchhiker’s Guide To the Universe.

1. One book that changed your life?
That would be a book I read in my teens. Green Mansions by W.H. Hudson. Extraordinary in it’s content and ecological theme. I loved it.

2. One book you have read more than once?.
The Littlest Angel by Charles Azwell. I make sure that every Christmas, each and every child in my life gets a copy.

3. One book you would want on a desert island?
I would want my diaries. Long sheets of paper and a pen. That would be heaven.

4. One book that made you cry?
The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings
I can’t tell you, on my mothers sofa, reading something so moving, as a young girl that I wept hard enough that she came running, and having read it....understood.

5. One book that made you laugh?
Many books make me laugh. Mostly because I want to edit out the mistakes!

6. One book you wish had been written?
Illuminatus. Need I say more?

7. One book you wish had never been written?
I don’t believe any book should not have been written. One thing that makes me madder than a wet cat is the fact that years ago, great works... I mean GREAT WORKS were burned because of their content. The written word is the history of mankind. Period.

8. One book you are currently reading?
Cesars’ Way by Cesar Millan. I have this dog. I mean I have this precious pup, I mean I have this damned animal, I mean I have this best friend, I mean I have this daggone dog that can’t stop barking at everything in site and she’s driving me mad.....but I love her.... which in Cesars’ opinion is my first mistake.

9. One book you have been meaning to read?

I’m a minister’s daughter. Girl gone wild, as most would say. I would love to have the discipline to sit down and read the entire Bible...however the begats bore me to tears, and except for the parables, I simply can’t understand it. One thing I do understand is the Golden Rule...
Do unto others as you would have done unto you.

Roberta,

You and I have the same answer for number 3! LOLOL! I am laughing my arsenal off.

Great read. I enjoyed it tremendously. Now I think I know a little more about you. NOT!

By the way, how's the damned dog? [hehe]

-By the way, how's the damned dog? [hehe]-

LOL. Jas, she now knows the meanog of NO! when she barks uncontrollably out the fron windows...she turns. She looks at me...then silently lowers her vocal tones to..

woof, woof, woof.

Tiny woofs. Little woofs. She has a mind of her own.

LOL

And you didn't want to do this!

You've given some great answers - plus a couple of teases. I love your answers 5 and 7.

5 for humour and 7 for the anger. How odd that I like best your two diametrically opposed answers.

Answer 6 is quite illuminating. I can imagine readers going off in a hundred directions with that answer and one day, I suspect, you will have to say more on the subject!

I'm glad you played tag - it was most revealing.

Thank you Amin!

Thanks Anna. I did find Cesaer's book very useful. I threw it at the dog and got her attention. :)

Okay, Roberta... Tag. I'm It.

1. One book that changed your life?
The Centaur by John Updike. The way myth and reality wove in and out of each other spoke to me in high school.

2. One book you have read more than once?
Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. This great Russian writer was easily the best English language wordsmith of the 20th century.

3. One book you would want on a desert island?
Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. No, I'm not being perverse, I just find it a perfect piece of literature.

4. One book that made you cry?
Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. At the end when Humbert meets up with a desperately, mundane Lolita always tears me up.

5. One book that made you laugh?
Portnoy's Complaint by Philip Roth. I mean love and a piece of liver? How could that not be funny. The movie was hilarious, too.

6. One book you wish had been written?
A completed Captain Stormfield's Visit to Heaven by Mark Twain instead of just the Excerpts from... - one the best little-known Twain.

7. One book you wish had never been written?
A tie: The Bible and The Koran. They've been more trouble than they're worth. Okay, maybe save the good parts, like the Sermon on the Mount and some of the Five Pillars of Islam.

8. One book you are currently reading?
Maximum City - Bombay Lost and Found by Sukehta Mehta. It's like reading about a scary, exciting future that exists now.

9. One book you have been meaning to read?
Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon. It's described as "unreadable," but I have a friend who did read it and loved it. He said it was like reading jazz - and I like jazz.

Our rescued hound never learnt the rules. For eight years we persevered, even sending him to dog school, from which he was expelled!
He went 'home' a while ago and we still miss him. He was a rebel until the end, and we loved him!
