Snow Day

I have been snowed in all day.

Sure, at ten o’clock this morning, I laughed at the forecast. The sun was shining. Husband didn’t have the gut check as he slid down the hill. Life was good.

At ten thirty all hell broke loose.

It started as a fine snow shower. Nice enough – kind of nice. I love a bit of weather.
At one o’clock, I ran out to take the trash cans back down the hill. I nearly busted my ass on the sidewalk. It had completely iced over.

At four thirty I decided to go ahead and feed the deer. I wish I’d bundled up. The temperature was 12 degrees and the wind was howling.

The deer were early. It’s going to be a bad night.

Husband called to say he was on his way North for an early business meeting. "The roads are dry and clear." Says he.

"Good luck getting home." I say.

I’ve been following the weather here:

It’s completely accurate. I know. I’ve been looking out the window all day.

If you would like to turn away from the window, check out this website:

You'll find you there.

I'm safe and warm, 20 miles away from the snow-embattled California mountains, while you're on the front lines, bravely fighting the winter weather! Did I tell you how proud I am of you? Let's sing it:

That I’m proud to be a West Virginian,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who plowed,
who cleared snowy paths for me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this snow,
God bless West Virginia.
