Gas

Brutish beasts
the greed of man
they come
working twenty-four/seven
raping the land

The heavy trucks
equipment – a rig
while we worry about
property values

the noise

Rattles my foundation
ruins my sleep

Helpless I buy
area rugs
hoping somehow to
deaden the sound
of the earth
weeping

How perfect for the Thanksgiving holiday season! We learned about this in school. Remember Manifest Destiny?

I just wish Chief Cornstalk was alive today.

Why are we still not listening?

I don't know Minx. I don't know. We moved up here to the country to avoid all of that.

Chief Cornstalk? Wasn't he a close friend of Johnny Appleseed?

Roberta said...

No. But he knew about the Moth Man.

Google it.

Which ditch did the ditchwitch ditch?

Who knew about the Moth Man? Chief Cornstalk or Johnny Appleseed?

Chief Cornstalk!

Why do I feel like I'm in a reprise of "Who's on first?"??

Because you're confusing Lucille Ball with Lou Costello.

Nice poem, Roberta. Very direct, passionate. :-) "deaden the sound of the earth weeping". Nice.

I hope the rugs ease the discomfort somewhat.

Maybe something better will come after this experience. The proverbial silver lining. ^_^
